Where to Stay for Yankees Games

There are many options in New York City on where to stay for Yankees games. While you could try to stay near Yankee Stadium, the convenience of New York’s subway system opens up a world of other options.

Avoid the Bronx

Unless you’re coming in just for a game and then leaving town, we wouldn’t recommend the Bronx.  The affordable hotels in the Bronx tend to be of the forgettable variety (think Rodeway Inn, Super 8, etc.) Getting to Yankee Stadium is easy on the subway system, so there’s not much of an advantage to staying within walking distance.

Our Stay at Stewart Hotel in Manhattan

The Stewart Hotel (formerly known as the Affinia) is clean and surprisingly affordable, with an incredible location.  Our family of four fit comfortably into one of the suites with a kitchenette for 3 days.

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Manhattan. Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, as well as plenty of restaurants, deli’s, and pizzerias are all within walking distance. Dunkin Donuts was located downstairs, which made for a convenient breakfast for the kids the first day…until they learned of the greatness of New York bagels.

With The Stewart Hotel as your launching pad, you’re also within walking distance of the Empire State Building and the Flatiron Building.

Getting to Yankee Stadium was a breeze; walk a few blocks to the 34th Street/Herald Square subway station and catch the B or D train straight to Yankee Stadium. The subway trip will take about 25 minutes. Use MTA’s website to see the schedule and plan your trip.

Other Places to Stay for Yankees Games

Grand Hyatt New York

Opposing teams often stay at the Grand Hyatt New York. It’s at 42nd Street in mid-town Manhattan, and is a little pricier, but has great reviews on Trip Advisor. From here, you’d take the 4 train from Grand Central Station (right by the hotel) to Yankee Stadium.

Times Square

The Intercontinental Hotel Group has a number of hotels, in a wide variety of price ranges right in Times Square. We’ve always enjoyed staying at their Kimpton brand hotels – each has a unique boutique feel to it. The Kimpton Muse is located near Times Square, and is clean and contemporary. Also in the area, IHG has hotels ranging from the Holiday Inn to the Intercontinental and Crown Plaza. All can be explored and booked here.
